Godzilla, originally called Gojira, first appeared in 1955 in the first series of Japanese films and has gained immense popularity in many countries around the world. In the United States,  Godzilla, along with many of the movie monsters of the Godzilla franchise enjoy an expansive fan base which grows larger each year. There is even a yearly convention called G-FEST that is devoted to the Godzilla film franchise as well as other Kaiju, or  strange beast, also the name of the genre of Japanese giant monster movies franchises such as Gamera and the Ultra Series.
