Dodge was founded in 1900 by brothers Horace Dodge and John Dodge and they sold bicycles, but then within two years, the bicycle company evolved into a major supplier of axles, engines, and transmissions to the automobile industry. Dodge produced chassis and engines for the Ford Motor Company and Olds Motor Vehicle Company before the brothers began to entertain the idea of manufacturing their own line of cars, because they were ‘tired of being carried around in Henry Ford’s vest pocket’. After years of building cars for the Ford Motor Company, the Dodge brothers worked on building their own automobile manufacturing company. Their first car, Model 30, was introduced on Nov 14th, 1914. By the end of that year, 249 vehicles were built. By 1916, the vehicles built by the Dodge brothers were ranked second in overall sales, with the Ford Model T in the number one spot. The company was incredibly successful from the outset and gained a good reputation even during its early stages. At the start of 1920, Dodge had a yearly total production rate of 104,000 units, however, the success wasn’t there for long. Tragically, by the end of 1920 both Dodge Brothers contracted influenza, and died less than a month apart. After the death of the Dodge brothers, the company was sold to Dillon, Reed and Co. for a reported $146 million and later to Chrysler for $170 million in a stock deal. Recently, the Dodge brand of automobiles revived the Dodge Brother’s legacy in a national ad campaign where the brothers (actors of coarse, no ghost stories here!) were shown racing a set of Dodge’s highly popular muscle cars, the Dodge Challenger and the Dodge Charger in a series of TV commercial ads. The brothers were shown wearing the clothing worn in the early 1900’s, while the cars they were racing were current models to the year the ads were shown. The playful banter and competitive nature the brothers were shown to have brought home, for many, the feeling that the brothers really did interact this way, as brothers commonly do. For Dodge fans, these ads surely provided a large dose of nostalgia!

Metal signs were traditionally used by brand companies as a high-quality and durable advertising medium, as they embody longevity and quality, and transfer these values perfectly to the advertised product. These days, metal signs are considered a popular retro-item, with their old-school themes and rusty distressed appearances, offering the ideal opportunity for stylish decoration with a retro and vintage inspired look.
